REVIEW: St. Tropez Instant Tan
I'd been wanting to try out self tanners for awhile but from seeing so many self tan disasters I was pretty afraid to. I had decided to do a little research and asking around to pick up something for New Years Eve as my dress was rose gold and could really wash a pale girl out! However, my boyfriend's family gifted me with this Instant Tan in a little gift set so I was sorted!
It's in the shade light/ medium. They do have a medium/ dark if you want more of a darker tan but this ended up working perfectly for me as it was my first time self tanning and didn't want to go too dark.
You can pick this up from Sephora for $16 or from the St. Tropez website for £10. I'm guessing you could get about 4 to 6 appliances out of the tube. A lot goes a long way!It claims to be 'water and transfer resistant' Fortunately, it didn't rain so I do not have an opinion regarding it being water resistant but after I applied it, I waited the recommended 2-3 minutes and sat on my white couch blogging and watching TV and it did not rub off at all! That's 10/10 right there for me! I could deal with stained sheets or what not but knowing I can wear the whitest of dresses and not get them stained is amazing! Definitely what you'd want in a self tanner!
The tanner also has a very faint smell. You honestly would not be able to identify it unless you put it right up to your nose to test for your review on your blog (which is totally not what I just did.) It doesn't have that overwhelming self tanner scent and definitely has no scent when it's on your skin.
Application of this product is also 10/10. It claimed to be streak free on the back and I wanted to test this so I applied it only with my hands and without a mitt. Now, I was very diligent in my application process as I obviously didn't want to miss spots the night before New Years Eve but when I was finished and when I checked the next morning, I saw no streaks and no white spots, I was very happy with the results! It's important when applying any false tanner with your hands to wash your hands after and then gently blend the formula on the top of your hands. You should also blend your wrist very slightly into your palm. There is nothing worse that 'tan hands' with the dark spots on the wrist and knuckles. Just gross!
Because I was so happy with the result of the product, I applied an extra layer the next morning to intensify the pay off.
Overall, I believe this is a great product for either first time self tanners or naturally pale people! It is very easy to work with, is non-transferable, has no scent and does not leave the skin blotchy or streaked. The only reason why I'm not giving this product a 10/10 is because for me, the color pay off is not as intense as I'd like. Bearing in mind it does say light/medium, I am pretty pale and did not notice a huge difference after one application so that is my only flaw.
Let me know if you've tried this or about any other self tanners that I should try!
P.S St. Tropez are cruelty-free!
8.5/10
